Wallace Inducted into Hall of Fame

Larry Wallace      Larry Wallace of Alton was inducted in October, 1999, into the Missouri Hall of Fame during the MGA Annual Convention held at Marriott's Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach, MO.
Wallace was selected for the Hall of Fame distinction by a committee of peers from across the state representing all aspects of the grocery industry within the State of Missouri. With his induction, he will be forever recognized for his status and accomplishments in industry leadership and community affairs.
The Wallace & Owens enterprise, which Mr. Wallace began in 1949, is currently composed of nine stores located throughout Southeast Missouri and Northern Arkansas. The family business began when Wallace purchased his first store in Alton. It was primarily a feed store to serve the mostly agricultural area. He added a few groceries and bought local farmers' eggs and cream. After marrying Mildred Owens in 1951, he brought his wife into the business. In 1955, his wife's brother, Kelly Owens, joined the business and Wallace & Owens began.
Today, the Wallaces have all their family in the business. Sons Steve and Rich have stores in Malden and Alton, respectively. Wallace & Owens has been a member of the Associated Wholesale Grocers Coop since 1964 and is the tenth largest customer of the Springfield division.
Missouri Grocery Association (MGA) is a not- for-profit service organization based in Springfield. It represents approximately 1,100 grocery retailers, wholesalers, brokers, vendors, manufacturers and related companies across the State of Missouri.
